
Amia Langer
Amia Langer, soprano, completed her Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Houston where she studied with Melanie Sonnenberg. She most recently was a Studio Artist with Chautauqua Opera Company, where she performed in several concerts and sang the role of Dew Fairy (Gretel Cover) in Hansel and Gretel. She also was a Teaching Artist and performed the role of Gretel in an abridged version of Hansel and Gretel with the Chautauqua Opera Company’s Opera-in-the-schools program. In the 2023- 2024 season she performed with Ars Lyrica Houston in their “Awe and Wonder” concert, and was a member of the Houston Grand Opera’s 2023-2024 Opera to Go! season in their production of Katie: The Strongest of the Strong.
Awards: First Place Winner of the North Dakota-Manitoba Districts; Encouragement Award recipient at the Upper Midwest Region of the 2023 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition; finalist in the 2023 inaugural Duncan Williams Voice Competition; semifinalist in the 2023 Houston Saengerbund Vocal Competition. Favorite past roles: Margarita Xirgu (Osvaldo Golijov’s Ainadamar), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), and Anne (A Little Night Music). Previous Young Artist Programs: 2024 Chautauqua Opera Company, 2023 Festival Napa Valley Manetti Shrem Opera Program, 2022 Brevard Music Festival, 2021 Houston Grand Opera Young Artist Vocal Academy.

Amia has been a music teacher for the past five years and counting, and loves seeing her former and current students enjoy music making! She thoroughly enjoys helping students explore music through piano or voice lessons, and seeing her students grow not just in knowledge but in confidence as well.
